Born and educated in Johor, Hussien developed a deep passion for community service from a young age. This passion laid the foundation for his active involvement in numerous community organisations and charitable bodies, shaping his lifelong commitment to serving society.

Throughout his career and community service, Hussien has held numerous leadership positions in business organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and community institutions. Since 2002, he has served as the Secretary of the Johor Indian Muslim Entrepreneurs Association (PERUSIM), where he has played a significant role in promoting entrepreneurship and strengthening the Indian Muslim business community in Johor. His involvement with the Johor State Malabar Muslim Association (JMMNJ) began in 1978 when he was appointed Head of the Youth Wing. In recognition of his leadership and commitment, he later served as Deputy President from 1994 to 2018. In 2008, he was conferred the Meritorious Service Medal (PJK) by the His Royal Highness the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. In 2012, he received the In 2012, he was conferred the Sultan Ibrahim Medal, Second Class (PIS II) by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, Sultan of Johor. His dedication to volunteerism continued to receive national recognition when he was honoured with the Best Volunteer Award in 2016 by His Majesty the Sultan of Johor.
In 2017, he was named the National Indian Muslim Maulidur Rasul Personality, followed by the Special Malabar Maulidur Rasul Award of Johor in 2018. Earlier, he received the Award in Recognition of Distinguished Service from the Johor Malabari Brotherhood Council in 2014, followed by the Special Award for Distinguished Service (Johor State Level) in 2015, in recognition of his invaluable service, dedication, and enduring contributions to the community
